Like I blogged the other day, on Friday afternoon I left a horrible almost-got-fired waitering shift and went home and decided to collect the 23 stories I wrote in the last 12 months or so into a simple little Kindle book. I needed to do some kind of work, that felt like me. Something creative. So, after some tweaking and major help, here is is:
If you can’t click on the photo above, try this here.
Right now it is a Kindle e-book only, on sale for 99 cents. Maybe you’ll buy it and review it? Maybe not. Who knows? Can I control that shit? No way. Next, I’ll make a print book, okay?
When I first put it together it was a big mess, but I was put into contact with a self-publishing consulting guru named JW Manus, and she helped me fix the book up so that the Table of Contents linked to the stories, etc. Things like that. She is great so you should consider her for any self-publishing consultation needs. Here is her website.
Notice also that 17 stories were published elsewhere. I love all those places and I’ve included links to each publication in the credits page. Check them all out.
Thanks so much to Joe Clifford for giving me the invaluable encouragement last fall that really gave me the confidence to continue writing. Same for Mr. Tom Pitts. Both of them have been great friends. Wow.
Also Ron Earl Phillips, Chris Rhatigan, Darren Sant, Craig Douglas, Laramore Black, Chris Irvin, Jen Conley, Erik Arneson, Joe Myers, Cindy Rosmus, and Mike Joyce for editing and publishing my stories. Links to all of their publications are on the credits page.
So, anyway, what are these stories?
Mostly, they are flash (700 – 1000 word) stories of crime and criminals. There are also longer stories of various genres, and some are really short, 200 words or less. The last story in the collection, Crystal, is a long story that I have never been able to get published. I don’t see why, because it is a sweet, wholesome tale of anal and group sex in Houston in the 1980s among waitresses, advertising copywriters, and bass players.
